In response to media reports on the "M109A6 self-propelled artillery" arms sales case, the Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (2^nd) that the arms procurement of M109A6 has exceeded production lines, and the US has informed the MND that the arms can only be provided after 2026. As such, the US has now offered alternatives, including the HIMARS which has the advantage of being more precise and capable of long distances. Currently, the MND is considering and reviewing such alternatives.

The MND pointed out that it will, after considering the needs of precision strike firepower for defense operations in Taiwan and Penghu, submit the budget proposal to Legislative Yuan for review and implementation once alternative plans have been assessed.
