Regarding media reports that "the service of conscription has been finalized as one year," the MND clarified today (27) that the content elaborated was not factual. The MND indicated that the case is currently in the process of collecting opinions and discussions from all walks of life and has not yet been finalized.

The MND has publicly stated many times that the case has not yet been finalized; nonetheless, various media have recently made many speculations and conclusions and, in doing so, have brought about much confusion to the understanding of the general public. As such, the MND would like to emphasize that the issue of the extended service period will consider several factors, such as comprehensive threat from the enemy, needs of defense operations, and related supporting measures, like the expansion of training capacity with the troops, in order to meet the needs of modern warfare.
