Naval Command issues a press release in response to media reports that "classified information about an indigenous-made submarine is suspected to have been leaked" (January 13, 2022)

Political Warfare Bureau,M.N.D.PostDate: 2022/01/13

In response to media reports that "classified information about an indigenous-made submarine is suspected to have been leaked", Navy Command elaborated on the report today (13th) as follows:

1. The content of the report in the media is not true. Navy Command emphasized that a submarine is the key combat power of national security and an important indicator of national defense construction. The Navy, therefore, adheres to a strict and cautious approach to control and implementation, and the whole project is being implemented according to the projected timelines.

2. Since the construction of an indigenous-made submarine was concluded via a contract with Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation in May 2019, Navy Headquarters did not contact the "Mr. Kuo" named in the report. His actions are as an individual and have nothing to do with the headquarters. As such, we would like to call on the media to do their due diligence and refrain from making wild assumptions to avoid confusing the general public.

3. The project teams in the case (including foreign technical personnel) have all had clearance checks, and signed a non-disclosure agreement. The Navy requires all project personnel (including foreign technical personnel) to strictly abide by confidentiality regulations. Any suspected violations of confidentiality regulations are investigated and confirmed cases dealt with according to the law.
4. The Navy will continue to implement good risk management and control practices upon completion of the indigenous-made submarine project under the supervision of Legislative and Control Yuan. It will then have the combat capability on which the country can rely, and we appeal to our nationals for support.
