In response to the media report that "fire and smoke appeared on a warship that was berthed at Keelung Harbor", Navy Fleet Command stated today (10th) that the large warship is part of the 192nd Fleet. When the duty officer discovered a fire appearing from the kitchen chimney, servicemen on the vessel put out the fire using CO2 extinguishers. No personnel were harmed or equipment damaged.
Naval Fleet Command confirmed that the fire on the large warship was caused by carbon deposition and oil pollution in the kitchen chimney after a preliminary inspection. When cooks were working to prepare food aboard, the high temperatures resulted in a fire in the chimney passage. As the officers and soldiers quickly put out the fire and handled the situation properly, there was no harm or damage caused to personnel or equipment. Naval Headquarters Command and Fleet Command have set up an investigation team to clarify the cause, and ordered all fleets to use this case as an example to prevent similar cases from happening again and to maintain the safety of vessel equipment.
