The General Political Warfare Bureau has existed since the establishment of the R.O.C. Army Academy in 1924. The Political Bureau of Ministry of National Defense was reorganized as the Political Department of the Ministry of National Defense in 1950 and named as General Political Department in 1951. In 2002, it was renamed the General Political Warfare Bureau.

    The bureau is the first-class organization under the direction of the Minister of National Defense, and is also the highest authority of political warfare in the armed forces. It is responsible for the planning and the supervision of political warfare activities. The General Political Warfare Bureau maintains future objectives both inside and outside the organization. Inside the Bureau, its objectives include publicity, psychological operations, and civil service. Outside the Bureau, its objectives include counseling, Psyop training, news management and fostering morale. These objectives are in place to service the overriding goal of the General Political Warfare Bureau: “Consolidate Ourselves, Prevail over the Enemy”.
